Merrill Creek is my favorite place to paddle- in fact its the only place I paddled this year. It's a good sized lake and has a variety of paddling environments. There's a narrow cove which I call the Finger cove which is almost always protected from the wind and provides many opportunities for photography, snack breaks and turning practice. The sides of this cove and other areas are lined with trees which are in the water and spaced far enough apart to allow paddling between them. There are many submerged tree-tops but since the wood is old and rotting they have never damaged the bottom of my boat. (See the Picture at the very bottom of this page)

There's an Eagle's nest at one side of the reservoir which is buoyed off and entry in this area is not permitted. I've only seen the Eagles on a few occasions and don't have any decent pictures of them- I'll keep trying though.

There's also hiking trails around the lake which make this a good destination even when the lake is frozen over. I'm pretty sure there's a bear or two in the neighborhood so please be careful.

Here's a .pdf map of the reservoir: Merrill Creek Trail map.
